WEST WINDSOR — The Village School expansion project has been put out to bid.
The West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional Board of Education hopes to open bids for the project on Dec. 17. The bid will be awarded shortly thereafter, according to President Hemant Marathe.
”We have completed all reviews with state and township agencies,” Mr. Marathe said.
During its Nov. 26 meeting, the Board of Education unanimously voted to pay architect Faridy Veisz Fraytak $208,600 plus expense reimbursements for providing architectural and construction management services for the Village School addition.
The addition, which is estimated to cost $13 million, was approved in the 2013-14 annual school budget.
”The exact cost can be determined only after we open bids,” Mr. Marathe said. “The estimated cost of the project is about $13 million. It will be paid through our capital reserve fund and fund balance. We will not need a referendum to pay for the project.”
With the addition, Village School, which is located at 601 New Village Road in West Windsor, will gain six new classrooms, a new registration area, a 2,500-square-foot multi-purpose room, a conference room, an occupational/physical therapy room and more. The addition will be placed on the back of the building, according to Mr. Marathe.
”The addition offers West Windsor-Plainsboro space to better serve the students as we create additional classrooms, increase special education programs, build district administrative office space, and bring together district services for guidance, registration, transportation, special education, and community education,” Mr. Marathe said.
Construction will not affect operation of the school, according to Mr. Marathe.
”We will finish work without affecting operation of the school,” Mr. Marathe said. “We have recent experience of managing work at High School South while the school was in session.”
The addition is expected to be complete sometime during the summer of 2015, according to Mr. Marathe.
