South Asian group sets interfaith celebration

SACO (South Asian Community Outreach) will hold an interfaith holiday celebration at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 19 at Akbar Restaurant, 21 Cortland St., Edison. Festivities will include food, live music and entertainment.

At the event, SACO will honor the following community leaders and organizations for their contributions to those in need across the nation:

 Congressman Frank Pallone, who has represented central New Jersey in Congress since 1988, will receive the Mahatma Gandhi Peace Award.

 NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People), serving minorities for the last 100 years, will receive the Human Rights Award.

 Assemblyman Upendra Chivukula, the first South Asian to serve in the state Legislature, will receive the Leadership and Service Award.

 ASFA (Art Speaks for Autism) will receive the Community Service Award.

 Rabbi Dr. Bernhard Rosenberg, the spiritual leader of Congregation Beth-El, Edison, will receive the Social Justice Award for his work on Holocaust, genocide and racism.

 Kiwanis Club of Edison will receive the Service Impact Award.

 PAK League of USA will receive the Community Service Award.
