BREAKING: Florence Township Police Chief Scully dead at 58

Official confirms chief ‘succumbed to cancer’ April 6

FLORENCE — The Florence Township Fire Department, through its Facebook page, announced that Township Police Chief Alvin Scully has died at age 58.
   The post appeared on the department’s Facebook page around 8 p.m. April 6, indicating that Chief Scully had died earlier in the day. Just under an hour later, the Florence Township OEM Facebook page, similarly offered its condolences.
   Richard A. Brook, township administrator, this morning confirmed Chief Scully had “succumbed to cancer” and said township and police officials are working on releasing a formal statement.
   According to archives, Chief Scully was promoted from captain to chief in February 2013. He began working as the chief law enforcement officer and acting chief in March 2012 after Stephen Fazekas, the previous chief, retired.
   Chief Scully, of Florence, was hired by the department in January 1985.
