MANVILLE: Police respond to two fires within 20 minutes

Police blotter, March 24-31

   Fire fighters put out a grease fire in a Dumpster behind Dunkin’ Donuts on South Main Street at 12:51 p.m. March 24. Fewer than 15 minutes later, they responded to a brush fire on Richard Avenue. A fence also caught on fire. Police said a neighbor was burning brush in his yard.
   • A man said there was damage to the front and rear bumpers and left rear fender on his repossessed 2007 Toyota Camry at Adesa Auto Auction on North Main Street at 3:44 p.m. March 24. Fewer than 10 minutes later, a woman at Adesa to pick up her repossessed 2011 Toyota Sonata said it was damaged, too. Damage was to the front suspension, front end and a scratched rear bumper. Adesa showed photos depicting damage was done before delivery there.
   • A woman came into headquarters about 6 p.m. March 24 to report scratches to her Chevy Sebring appeared overnight while the car was parked in a driveway on Green Street.
   • Money and medication were reported taken on Dominic Street about 10 minutes before midnight on March 25. The caller identified a suspect as a late-teen boy who could be on bike or foot. Officer Mike Zangrillo stopped Michael Bettinger, 19, of Manville on foot by a store on Kennedy Boulevard and ultimately charged him with theft and possession of hypodermic syringe and drug paraphernalia. He was released with a summons. The property was returned to the victim/owner.
   • A German shepherd and a small dog were captured after running around inside the auction lot and other areas of Adesa Auto Auction at about 1:30 p.m. March 25. The dogs had Manville tags and were returned to their owner on Valerie Drive.
   • Michael Serge, 51, of Manville was served a summons for disorderly conduct for allegedly harassing patrons at Quick Chek store on Brooks Boulevard just before 7 a.m. March 27.
   • Graffiti was found inside an abandoned house on 14th Avenue at 7:44 a.m. March 27.
   • Philip Shaw, 48, of Massapequa, N.Y., was arrested at Adesa Auto Auction on a pending $122 warrant from Kearny. He posted cash bail.
   • Officers Ryan Steier and William Sampson apprehended Joseph Kulscar, 27, Manville, who was found in a shed on South 5th Avenue near Washington Avenue, on a pending county warrant at 2:32 p.m. March 27, police said. He was also charged with resisting arrest in the 4th degree, and held on no bail.
   • Patrolman Michael Peterson charged Scott Morrison, 47, of Manville on March 27 at 2:46 p.m. with disorderly conduct for repeatedly entering a construction zone after being told not to, police said.
   A caller at 8 p.m. March 27 said a woman believed to be asking for food knocked on his door on West Camplain Road but he didn’t open it. Police checked the area and found nothing.
   • A dark silver SUV dragging a chain connected to a vehicle and leaking fluid was reported parked in front of CVS on South Main Street at 10:23 p.m. March 28. It was parked near a garage with bay doors, so it was possibly a vehicle repair. Police checked and both vehicles gone.
      • Jonathan Delgado Obando, 25, and Esteba Briceno Marin, 31, of Bound Brook were both charged with disorderly conduct for fighting in the roadway in the late night of March 28. They were both released after being charged.
   • John Clear of South Bound Brook was charged with shoplifting $327.34 worth of items from Walmart on March 30 at 5:30 p.m. on North Main Street. He was taken to the Somerset County jail.
   • A caller from South 15th Avenue at 6:51 p.m. March 30 said his bicycle had been taken from a house behind the New Fortune restaurant on South Main. The bike was last seen about a week ago.
   • A Kennedy Boulevard caller said a neighbor was making siren and whining noises with their computer 4:28 a.m. March 31, and the noise could be heard outside. Police found the area quiet.
