Long Branch library slates special events

The Long Branch Public Library at 328 Broadway has announced its special events and film screenings in May.

May is Be Kind to Animals Month, and the library has invited the Monmouth County SPCA to present the free family program, “Cool to Be Kind,” at 3:30 p.m. May 2 in the library’s Community Room.

The program will stress kindness and compassion for animals and provide an overview of pet care, safety, shelter work and overpopulation.

Some furry visitors will be available for guests to interact with after the presentation.

Donations of pet food or toys would be appreciated.

The library will be collecting pet items for the SPCA until May 10. Visit the library’s website to see wish list items.

Family-friendly films with an animal theme will be shown at 2 p.m. May 10 and 24 in the library’s Community Room.

Bring snacks to enjoy. Children under age 12 must be accompanied by an adult. “Hachi: A Dog’s Tale” will be shown May 10, and “Babe the Gallant Pig” will be on May 24.

May is also Jewish American Heritage Month. Films illuminating the Jewish- American cultural experience will be shown at 6 p.m. May 5 and 12 in the Community Room.

“Crossing Delancey” will be shown May 5, and “Brighton Beach Memoirs” will be on May 12.

The library will also have displays honoring New Jersey heroes and artwork by Fair Haven artist Jill Kerwick.
