MANVILLE: Beeping sound from garbage bag provokes call to police

Police blotter, week of April 82-May 3

    A beeping sound from a black garbage bag brought police to Louis Street and North 7th Avenue at 9:24 a.m. April 28. They found a smoke alarm that still had a battery in it. The battery was removed and the item discarded.
    • Police said April 28 seven window grates to a building on Brooks Boulevard were taken between April 25 and 28. An investigation continues.
    • Police said a Nissan was in water on North 2nd Avenue at 6:09 a.m. May 1 and they couldn’t access it. Fuel was reported leaking, but the fire department determined there was none.
    • Cynthia Holmlund, 48, of Somerville was charged with shoplifting $48.98 worth of items from Walmart on North Main Street at 1:26 p.m. Friday. May 2. After paperwork was completed, she was released.
    • Driver Tayler Gallic-Nicols, 21, of Basking Ridge struck a parked BMW belonging to a Huff Avenue resident. The owner called at 4:51 p.m. Friday when she got home and saw the damage, but police had already investigated. An accident report was generated.
    • Anna Acquavia, 31, of Bridgewater was charged at 8:53 p.m. Friday May 2with shoplifting $60.86 worth items from Walmart on North Main Street. She was released with a court appearance date after paperwork was completed.
   • Daryl Petruzziello, 21, of Middlesex was charged at 7:45 p.m. May 3 with shoplifting electronics (Roku media players) from Walmart. He was released on his own recognizance.
    • Walmart security told police at 9:45 p.m. Saturday they were trying to stop a male shoplifter who may be armed with a knife that he was trying to steal. Michael Bright 44, of Somerville was charged with shoplifting the item, worth $79.97.
    • Mutual aid from Hillsborough and Bridgewater police was requested, but then cancelled when Manville police controlled a verbal dispute near LaCascada bar on West Camplain Road at 10:46 p.m. Sunday. May 4. Bernal Rodriguez, 35, of Manville was charged with obstruction and resisting arrest, and later released with a summons. Kendall Rojas, 28, of Manville was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest; he was taken by the squad to Somerset Medical Center on a complaint of pain, although police said he had no visible injury.
