Junior Police Academy accepting applications

EDISON — The Edison Police Department will conduct its Junior Police Academy in two separate sessions, Aug. 4-8 and Aug. 11-15, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Woodrow Wilson Middle School, 50 Woodrow Wilson Drive.

The academy is open to all Edison middle school students entering sixth, seventh or eighth grade in September.

The deadline for registration is July 18. Because class sizes are limited, students will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. The cost for the program is $100 per week, payable to the Edison Municipal Alliance by check or money order.

Activities will include DWI education, K- 9 demonstrations, fire demonstrations, motor vehicle stops, Emergency Response Team, anti-drug education, drill and ceremony, sporting activities, a New Jersey State Police helicopter landing and more.

Graduates of the academy will receive diplomas at ceremonies that will be held at 1 p.m. each Friday in the Council Chambers of the Edison Municipal Complex, 100 Municipal Blvd., where family and friends are invited to attend.

Interested residents should contact Sgt. Robert Dudash Jr. of the Edison Police Community Services Unit at 732-248-6442, or at [email protected]. Applications can be downloaded from www.edisonnj.org.
