Kathryn Warlick has been appointed as the director of special services for the Hillsborough school district. Ms. Warlick will start with the district on or before Aug. 25.
Ms. Warlick has been working since 2012 as the supervisor of special services for the Springfield school district. She joined Springfield in 2009 as a learning disabilities teacher consultant.
She’ll be paid $136,000 per year in Hillsborough. She replaces Lenore Johnston, who has retired after 33 years in the district.
Donna Langdon’s tenure as acting director was extended to Aug. 31, depending if Ms. Warlick can join the district earlier.
Support services include speech and language, occupational therapy, physical therapy, adaptive physical education, and supported employment.
Child study teams, special services, students with individualized education plans, psychologists and social workers are jobs that fall under the department. It also coordinates out-of-district programs, self-contained classes, resource center classes and full mainstreaming.
Ms. Warlick has spent eight years in the classroom with students and four years developing programs that support students and faculty in the classroom. She brings with her more than 100 additional hours of differentiated instructional methodologies and leadership training.
Ms. Warlick received a bachelor’s degree from Davis and Elkins College in West Virginia and a master’s degree in interrelated special education from North Georgia College. She also earned a master’s degree in educational leadership as well as her principal and supervisor certificate from The College of New Jersey.
"Kathryn brings with her a strength in developing and implementing programs that will continue to place the needs and goals of our students first," said Superintendent of Schools Jorden Schiff. "Her diverse background and willingness to work collaboratively will be an asset to our schools."
