MANVILLE: Neighbors engage in spat

Police blotter, week of June 30 to July 7

A Manville woman came to headquarters at 9 a.m. June 30 to report a license plate had been stolen from her vehicle sometime before June 28. The stolen plate ID was entered into the national crime computer; the other plate was returned to the Motor Vehicle Commission.
— A North 9th Avenue woman told police at about 11 a.m. June 30 that a neighbor was taping her children. Patrols spoke to both parties and advised them of their rights to file complaints. Later, a North 9th Avenue woman told police at 8 p.m. that profanities were yelled at her on a daily basis when she walked by a house on Green Street. Police told both neighbors they could sign complaints for harassment.
— Police investigated a reported fight inside Walmart on North Main Street at 12:49 p.m. June 30. Police said the victim was a man, 34, from Manville who accused a man, 53, also from Manville, with spitting in his face. Parties were separated and sent on their way, with no complaints signed.
— Adolfo Vergara, 48, of Readington Township came to headquarters at 1:05 p.m. June 30 to pay a $250 warrant.
— Police responded to a call about an assault at a restaurant on South Main Street at 8:26 p.m. June 30. It proved unfounded, police said, but Timothy Riehl, 51, of Manville was charged with public consumption of alcoholic beverages.
— Delaware dealer plates were reported stolen at Adesa Auto Auction at 2:34 p.m. July 1.
— Two angry Hillsborough men accused each other of motor vehicle violations on North Main Street at 6:48 p.m. July 1. Police separated the two.
— At 8:26 p.m. July 1 a North 21st Avenue woman reported sending $455 to a money consolidation company she located on the Internet. Police said they believe the company is a scam.
— A Cedar Street caller said two drunks threw beer bottles out a two-door black sedan at 9:10 p.m. July 1. The caller said an officer wasn’t needed — just wanted police to be aware of the incident — and he was cleaning the glass off the street.
— A woman came to headquarters at 4:35 p.m. July 2 to report that her debit card was used to withdraw $203.75 in Florida on May 19, when she was in Manville. She reported the incident at the request of the bank, she said.
— An official of Roe Industries on Manville Avenue told police at 6:26 p.m. July 2 that his building was broken into and sometime in the last 10 days and more than $5,000 worth of tools and material were taken.
— A 21-year-old man, suspected of being under the influence of alcohol, was escorted out of Quick Chek on Brooks Boulevard at 2:31 a.m. July 3.
— Three tires on rims were reported taken from the front yard of a South 20th Avenue home at 3:39 p.m. July 3. The value was put at $165.
— A 10-year-old Boesel Avenue caller in the midst of reporting at 3:23 p.m. July 4 that someone had stolen his bicycle said that the bike had just been returned by his 13-year-old brother.
— A North 8th Avenue caller said at 4 p.m. July 4 that a man is tearing asbestos siding and blowing dust into the neighbor’s window. Police found a man removing asbestos shingles and placing them in a Dumpster provided by a sanitary landfill with a waste tracking number for non-friable asbestos. Manville Building Inspector John Tamborini responded, found the permit allowed everything to continue.
— Police responded to seven reports of fireworks between 9 and 9:48 p.m. July 4 in the borough and an adjacent street in Hillsborough.
— Jonathon M. Ramos, 36, of Manville was arrested at 6:16 p.m. July 5 on a traffic warrant issued in Hillsborough. He was brought to headquarters and posted $208 in bail.
— Mary E. Stewart, 57, of Warren was charged with shoplifting items valued at $26.66 from Walmart on North Main Street at 8:40 p.m. July 6. She was released on her own recognizance.
