NJ Transit’s Dinky line returned to normal service on Wednesday after being out of commission for nearly five straight days.
Substitute bus service ran as an alternative until the line came back on around 4 p.m., said NJ Transit spokesman William Smith on Thursday.
That was longer than originally planned when NJ Transit announced temporary service changes related to improving Faculty Road, including installing a new grade crossing.
The train was out Saturday and Sunday and then supposed to run on a limited schedule Monday and Tuesday. Mechanical problems, however, kept the train from running both of those days and into Wednesday, Mr. Smith said.
Faculty Road re-opened Wednesday around 4:15 p.m. after a stretch of the road from Alexander Street to Elm Drive had to be closed to traffic during those improvements. Faculty had been closed since July 11.
Kristin S. Appelget, director of community and regional affairs at Princeton University, told the Princeton Council on Monday that the new Dinky station would open in late fall. At the moment, rail riders have to catch the train from a temporary station.
