Emergency responders need to be able to see house numbers clearly from the street in case of an emergency.
The Township Committee discussed the issue during its meeting on Aug. 13. Committee member Sean Gable noted that the Safety Committee raised the issue, stating that the 911 numbering coordinates are “insufficient.”
”There are a lot of homes in the community that are not properly addressed especially for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) who have quite a few issues finding homes,” said Mr. Gable. “We really need to look at this ordinance.”
He suggested that someone from EMS, the fire department and the police department join the Safety Committee.
”Whether it be with the (business) administrator or the attorney and kind of address these concerns so that we can make sure that we have our homes properly numbered,” he said.
Township Chief Financial Officer Joseph Monzo suggested that the tax assessor also be a part of the committee and process.
”Can I suggest that the assessor be involved in it also because of the block of the lot,” said Mr. Monzo. “The tax assessor has the addresses and there is a coordination between that and the Post Office.”
”I think that’s a good point,” Mr. Gable said. “If the committee will allow us to move forward with this I will work with whoever we decide to have them meet with at the time and coordinate so that we can get this fixed.”
He said the Safety Committee should suggest changes to the current ordinance and bring the changes to the Township Committee for review.
”I would suggest that the committee provides something for us to review,” said Mayor Robert Higgins.
