MANVILLE: Elks hold clam bake BBQ on Saturday

Elks barbecue: Manville-Hillsborough Elks 2119 will host annual clam bake and barbecue, 1-5 p.m., at the lodge, 1500 Brooks Blvd., Hillsborough. Rain date is Sunday, Sept. 7. Admission $35 in advance, $40 at door per adult and $15 for youngsters ages 10-17; children under 10 are free. Call lodge at 908-725-1717 for tickets.
Wed., Sept. 10
Slavic dinner: St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church holds monthly dinner, 4 to 7 p.m., St. Mary Parish Center, 1900 Brooks Blvd. $13 for adults (ages 9 and up) and $5 for children (8 and under). All-you-can-eat pirohi, stuffed cabbage, kielbasa and sauerkraut, mashed potatoes. A surprise entrée will be prepared by St. Mary’s chef John Pagano. Flea market & craft show: Manville First Aid & Rescue Squad Auxiliary will hold an indoor/outdoor flea market and craft show from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the VFW hall, 600 Washington Ave. Vendors and crafters wanted. Fri., Sept. 19
Memorial service: VFW Post 2290 and its ladies auxiliary will host the annual prisoner of war/missing in action service at 7 p.m. at the post, 600 Washington Ave. The public is encouraged to come out and remember those who have gone to war and not yet returned.
Sat., Sept. 20
Community Day: The borough’s annual celebration will be held in Lost Valley. The rain date is Sunday, Sept. 21. Details will be announced but volunteers are needed. Call the Recreation department at 908-725-9478, ext. 121, or email [email protected].
Tues., Sept. 30
Meeting date moved: Millstone-Raritan Rivers Flood Control Commission meeting originally scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 24, has been reset to 7 p.m. in Borough Hall.
Farm market: Friday afternoons until Sept. 26, rain or shine, from 1 to 6 p.m. on Main Street sidewalks between Rosalie and North Orchard streets. Fresh foods, fruits and vegetables.
Bulk trash pick-up: Next collections are scheduled for Tuesdays, Sept. 9 and 23.
Blood pressure checks: Second Thursday of the month, 10:30 a.m. to noon, VFW.
