Gregory William Gers

Gregory Gers, 52, of Metuchen, passed away at home on Aug. 30, 2014, following a long illness. He was affectionately surrounded by family and close, devoted friends. “Greg” was preceded in death by his loving parents, Jane and John V. Gers; and his dear sister, Eugenie Lyons. He is survived by beloved brothers, John F. Gers of Metuchen; and David Gers and his wife, Barbara, and their children, Brian and Kristine, all of Middlesex. Greg was a proud member of the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local No. 9, out of Englishtown. During his 25-year career, he completed the required five-year apprenticeship and earned journeyman as a master welder, fitter and plumber. Greg enjoyed listening to music; playing his guitars; restoring antique bicycles, cars and motorcycles; and the camaraderie of attending car shows and cruise nights with family and friends. But his true pleasure came from helping others, pitching in whenever there was a need. He touched the lives of so many with his outgoing personality, relentless determination and wide-eyed enthusiasm. He truly was the “Good Joe” who would give the shirt off his back to help you. We will dearly miss the love, support and friendship he provided so selflessly to anyone his life’s path crossed.
