A recount of the narrow vote margin between the two candidates for mayor of Eatontown will take place Monday, Nov. 24.

According to Laura Kirkpatrick, director of public information for Monmouth County, the recount will be held at 10 a.m. at the offices of the Monmouth County Board of Elections, 1 East Main St., Freehold Borough.

The recount was requested by incumbent Democratic Mayor Gerald Tarantolo, who lost the Nov. 4 mayoral election by two votes to Republican challenger Councilman Dennis Connelly.

Tarantolo, who has served as mayor since 1999, drew a total of 1,479 votes while Connelly tallied 1,481. The results were certified Nov. 10 by the board of elections.

The recount will include a re-check of the voting machines and a readout of the voting cartridges and a hand recount of all vote-by-mail ballots,
