Booklet provides list of vet-friendly companies

A new list of veteran-friendly merchants and organizations is available through the Middlesex County Clerk’s Office.

The Veteran Friendly Merchants and Organizations booklet contains the names of businesses that offer discounts to veterans with proof of military service. It can be used in conjunction with the County Service ID Card, which is available free of charge to all U.S. military veterans living in the county.

“Filing for this new card creates a permanent record in the county clerk’s office in the event your DD-214 [discharge papers] becomes lost or damaged, and is needed as proof for property tax deductions or for V.A. benefits,” Middlesex County Clerk Elaine M. Flynn said.

Veterans can get a service card and booklet by visiting the county clerk’s office in the Middlesex County Administration Building, 75 Bayard St., New Brunswick, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays. There is no charge, and no appointment is required.

Bring discharge papers and a driver’s license, business mail or property tax bill. Married women requesting service cards listing a name other than what appears on the DD-214 must also present legal documents that show that name change.
