ALLENTOWN — Two brothers have been sentenced for their roles in an incident that occurred in Allentown in the waning days of 2011.

According to law enforcement authorities, Brieon Thurston, 32, and his brother, Nehmiah Thurston, 34, allegedly committed crimes — reported to have been a double shooting and stabbing — on Dec. 26, 2011, that left two people injured.

Nehmiah Thurston was apprehended on Dec. 30, four days after the incident.

Brieon Thurston spent 17 months on the run. He was arrested at a bar in Newark on May 16, 2013.

His arrest was the result of a multiagency investigation that was conducted by members of the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office, the New Jersey State Police and the Newark Police Department.

In connection with the 2011 incident, Brieon Thurston was charged with pointing a firearm at another individual, possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of a weapon.

This week, a spokesman for the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office said that in February, Brieon Thurston pleaded guilty to fourth-degree hindering apprehension and was sentenced to one year of probation.

In connection with the 2011 incident, Nehmiah Thurston was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

The prosecutor’s spokesman said that in February, Nehmiah Thurston pleaded guilty to second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun and was sentenced to a four-year state prison term with a two-year period of parole ineligibility.

Thurston is serving his sentence at the South Woods State Prison in Bridgeton, Cumberland County.
