About 50 fifth-graders at Auten Road School attended the after-school event “Made with Code” on Dec. 11. The students were provided a fun introduction to using computer code as well as taught the basics to get them a framework to write their first few lines of code.
Student Diya Rahul said, “I didn’t realize you could create so many things with code!”
Jennifer Tuller, the fifth grade computer literacy teacher at ARIS, set up the program.
“When I first had the idea to plan this Made with Code event, I was mostly focused on how to organize 50 students so that each of them could experience coding possibly for the very first time,” she said. “Once the evening got underway, it was amazing to see them using their critical thinking and problem-solving skills, coupled with their imagination, and having so much fun all at the same time.”
