Theater to kick off season with ‘Doubt’

Playhouse 22, East Brunswick’s community theater, will open its 2015 season with performances of “Doubt: A Parable” by John Patrick Shanley at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 3 p.m. Sundays, Jan. 9- 18, at the East Brunswick Community Arts Center, 721 Cranbury Road.

The drama is set in a fictional church school in the Bronx, N.Y., in 1964. When a nun expresses concerns over the behavior of a progressive and beloved priest, explosive allegations are leveled against the priest, leaving all in doubt.

The show is directed by Walter H. Placzek and is part of Playhouse 22’s On the Edge series, an opportunity for directors to present lesser-known or smaller works that might not be suited to a full-scale production. Some of the show’s content is for mature audiences; parental guidance is suggested.

All tickets cost $15 and are available by logging on to Playhouse22.org, by calling the box office at 732-254-3939, or at the box-office window.
