College offers cybersecurity, hacking classes

EDISON — A new cybersecurity program designed to train people to protect the nation’s computer network will be offered at Middlesex County College starting in January.

“Computer Forensic Investigations” will be held 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Jan. 24-April 11. There will be no classes on Feb. 14 and April 4. This course will provide an understanding of computer forensics and cybersecurity as they apply to corporate policies and law enforcement practices. The cost is $1,899.

“Computer and Network Security” will be held 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Jan. 24-March 7. There will be no class on Feb. 14. This course will provide the skills necessary to understand the inherent vulnerabilities in computer networks and the ways to address them by providing security at different levels. It will prepare students to take the Security+ certification offered by CompTIA. The cost is $999.

Ethical Hacking will be held 9 a.m.-4 p.m. March 14-May 9. There will be no class on April 4. This is a high-level course in which students learn the skills required to find and address vulnerabilities. It will assist students in preparation for the Ethical Hacker certification, which is recognized by the Department of Defense. The cost is $1,500.
