Beth El Synagogue of East Windsor’s annual Scholar-in-Residence weekend: On Fri. at 6 p.m. Rabbi Marcus Mordecai Schwartz, director of the Beit Midrash and assistant professor at the Jewish Theological Seminary, will present “Travel Between the Diaspora and the Land of Israel in the Talmud: A Physical Journey or a Spiritual One?” The cost is $20 for adults and $10 for children (12 and under). On Sat., following the 9 a.m. service, join a Lunch and Learn. An “Art from the Heart” exhibit by the A-Team Artists of Trenton will be held at the Gourgaud Gallery, Town Hall in Cranbury. Hours: Mon-Fri 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Third and last Sunday 1-3 p.m., closed on Feb. 16. Reception: Sat., Feb. 7 from 1-3 p.m. Artists of the TASK community share their work every February at the Gourgaud Gallery. All artwork is for sale and all proceeds will go directly to the artists of the A Team to support their work. Cash or a check made out to the Cranbury Arts Council is accepted as payment.

The Beth El Synagogue Seniors meet at Beth El Synagogue, 50 Maple Stream Road, East Windsor, at 1 p.m. The meeting discussion will be ‘Opera and Tanach’ and will include highlighting biblical personalities in operas and how the musical pieces compare with Biblical text. The showing and discussion of the film “Beneath the Helmet” will be held at 4 p.m. at Beth El Synagogue, 50 Maple Stream Road, East Windsor. This is a coming-of-age film about five Israeli soldiers. Beth El Synagogue of East Windsor, 50 Maple Stream Road, East Windsor, will celebrate Shabbat Across America and Social Action Shabbat at 6 p.m. Shabbat Across America/Canada” is a display of unity and Ahavat Yisrael, love of Israel, created in the hope every North American Jew will have the opportunity to celebrate Shabbat. “The Lady in Number 6” will be screened at 7 p.m., at Beth El Synagogue of East Windsor, 50 Maple Stream Road, East Windsor. This film is a portrait of the world’s oldest Holocaust survivor, Alice Herz-Sommer, a classical pianist who played in the orchestra of the Theresienstadt concentration camp. Following the movie, enjoy a performance by Bill Beitman on piano, Greg Forster on flute and soprano Dora Schnur as they play some of the music that Alice Herz-Sommer was known for performing. Admission is free and refreshments will be served.
