Jesus Christ Superstar

TOP PICK

Phoenix Productions will bring a fresh rendition of the rock opera “Jesus Christ Superstar” to Red Bank’s Count Basie Theatre for four performances the last weekend of March.

Created more than 40 years ago, “Jesus Christ Superstar” is set against the backdrop of an extraordinary and universally known series of events.

The musical, with a score by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, is loosely based on the Bible’s accounts of the last week of Jesus’ life, beginning with the preparation for the arrival of Jesus and his disciples in Jerusalem and ending with the crucifixion.

Complete with full sets, costumes and a live orchestra, this rendition features Jon Berry as Jesus, Remember Jones as Judas and Bre Cade as Mary Magdalene, leading a cast of 30 singers and dancers.

Performances are at 8 p.m. March 27, 2 and 8 p.m. March 28 and 3 p.m. March 29. Tickets are available through the Count Basie box office at 99 Monmouth St. in Red Bank, online at www.countbasietheatre.org or 732-842-9000.
