JACKSON – Officers from the Jackson Police Department and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating the shooting death of a 34-year-old male Jackson resident.

Prosecutor’s office spokesman Al Della Fave said the shooting took place just before 11 p.m. April 9 at the Casanova Ristorante in Romeo’s Plaza, South New Prospect and Bennetts Mills roads.

Jackson police and the prosecutor’s office said the Casanova Ristorante has been inactive for some time. The restaurant is connected to Romeo’s Pizza.

The initial report that was called in to police indicated the victim was an employee. It could not be determined on April 10 where the victim was employed.

The victim’s identity was being withheld while investigators sought to contact his next of kin.

Della Fave said responding officers located the victim in Casanova Ristorante when they arrived. He said the man died at the scene of multiple gunshot wounds.

The area was secured by Jackson police officers. Representatives of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Investigations Unit and the Ocean County Medical Examiner responded.

Jackson Police Lt. Steven Laskiewicz said detectives from Jackson and the prosecutor’s office were working the case and questioning individuals who were present at the time of the shooting, as well as potential persons of interest.
