Three will seek to retain seats

PLUMSTED — Three members of the Township Committee will seek to retain their seats in the Nov. 3 general election.

Republicans Jack Trotta, Eric Sorchik and Vincent Lotito submitted nominating petitions by the March 30 deadline, according to Township Clerk Dorothy Hendrickson.

Trotta and Sorchik are seeking threeyear terms that would run from January 2016 to December 2018.

Lotito, who was appointed to the committee in January to fill a vacant seat, is seeking a one-year term that would run from January to December 2016.

All five members of the governing body are Republicans.

Trotta is serving as Plumsted’s mayor and Sorchik is serving as deputy mayor this year. The mayor and deputy mayor are selected each January by the members of the committee.

Although no Democrats filed a petition to run for office, a Democrat could earn a place on the Nov. 3 ballot by receiving write-in votes in the June 2 primary.

An independent candidate could gain a place on the Nov. 3 ballot by filing a nominating petition by June 2.
