Dorothy L. Simmons

Dorothy L. Simmons (Piotrkowski), 83, of East Brunswick, formerly of Bayonne, entered into eternal rest May 6, 2015, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, with her loving family by her side.

“Dottie,” as she was known by all, was born in Bayonne and was a graduate of St. Dominic’s Academy in Jersey City and Caldwell University in Caldwell, New Jersey. Prior to her retirement in 1985, she was the proprietor of The New Rosebud Florist on 18th Street and Broadway in Bayonne, a family-owned establishment that had been in existence for nearly 70 years. A devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Dorothy will be deeply missed and long remembered as a great, spirited person who could light up a room with her smile.

She was predeceased by her beloved parents, Theodore and Mary (Mae) Piotrkowski (Jahera). Left to cherish her wonderful legacy are her children, daughter Rosemary Simmons and fiancé Tim Sexton; son Gary Simmons (Regina); daughter Denise Vaillancourt (Michael); son Jamie Simmons (Sandra); grandchildren, Jon Michael Saloukas; Daniel Simmons (Whitney); Matthew and Gary Simmons; Danielle Vaillancourt; Gabriella and Manny Reynoso; Angelica and Gia Marie Simmons; and her adored great-grandson, Emmanuel Salvatore Reyoso. She is also survived by two dear cousins, Lorraine (Lolli) Senerchia and Carol and Ronnie Zimmerman.

A memorial gathering was held at the Dworzanski & Son Funeral Home, Bayonne, on May 16, 2015, followed by a Mass in Dorothy’s honor at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Bayonne. Interment of her ashes followed at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, New Jersey.
