HOPEWELL: Travel soccer round-up

After going 2-2 in the HoVal Memorial Day Tournament, the HVSA U9 Sun Dogs took a 3-0 win over Branchburg on the strength of three first-half goals. Catherine von Oehsen, Katie Yancey and Ashton Bridges scored with Gillian Magner assisting Yancey. Excellent defense was provided by Frankie Somers, Brooke Hutchison and Ana Chrnelich. Goalkeeper Maddie Sarachman played well while great midfield support was provided by Alexa Marino, Julie Somers and Chloe Johnson rounded out the win.
The U9 Riptides had lost a hard-fought, 3-2 game to Sayreville 3-2. Todd Devin scored the first goal off a nice cross by Garrett Wille and Kieran Karp scored the second off a long free kick. The Riptides got great defense from Rex Peters and Lukas Ansari, while both Charlie Stocks-Natailias and Cameron Velez played well in the goal. Daniel Golian, Christian Mayer and Jackson Pfau helped fuel the offense.
The U10 Tsunami dropped a 2-1 decision to the Millburn Fury to fall to 4-2-2 in MNJYSA league play. Ava Brass scored off an assist from Kathryn McCabe early in the second half for the lone Tsunami goal. The midfield of Maggie Buglino, Rory Danieluk, Andie Cappucci, and Leah McManimon supported the Tsunami backline, which was led by Kirsten Ruf, Addie Sullivan and Maddie Ayres. Maura Graham and Mae Fesmire created a number of offensive chances for the Tsunami.
The U12 Windstorm capped its spring season with a 5-4 victory over the Flemington SC Dragons. Quinn Danieluk got Windstorm started with two goals, and Finn Mayer had a hat trick. Assists came from Danieluk and Will Lanciano. Alex Javick, Joseph Gribbins and Jeriah Mickens held the midfield passing, while Gribbins, Anand Wetzel and Michael Moonan had strong defensive tackles. CJ Colt and Moonan shared goalkeeping duties with several excellent saves. The Windstorm finished 7-3 this year.
