RECREATION UPDATE: June 4

Hopewell Township Parks and Recreation Department has announced that registration materials are available for this summer’s Teen Travel Camp for students completing grades six to nine.
It features a daily schedule of trips throughout the tri-state area and culminates with a three-day trip to Busch Gardens and Water Country USA in Virginia.
The program features five, one-week sessions that begin June 29 and continue through July 31.
The first week of camp will be a Junior Travel Camp exclusively for participants entering sixth or seventh grades. Some of the destinations include Dorney Park, Six Flags Great Adventure and Camelbeach Water Park, whitewater rafting, beach days and visits to themed restaurants, just to name a few.
Participants may register for individual weeks, but must attend at least one full week to be part of the week five overnight trip to Virginia.
An open house and orientation for this year’s Teen Travel Camp will be held June 4 in the auditorium of the Hopewell Township municipal building.
There will be a short presentation about the camp, and parents and participants will have the opportunity to meet the staff, followed by a brief question-and-answer period. The program starts at 7 p.m.; registration is not necessary.

The department is sponsoring a variety of half-day sports camps for the upcoming summer.
The Summer Sticks field hockey camp will be held from June 29 to July 3 and is open to participants of all skill levels in grades one through eight.
Players will work on game fundamentals, including passing, receiving, ball and stick control, shooting and positioning. The camp will be held at the turf field at Twin Pines each day from 9 a.m. to noon.
The summer field hockey league also will be held Tuesday and Thursday nights throughout July.
The Bulldog Baseball Camp will offer three sessions for various age groups. The first session, for ages 12 to 15 will be held from June 23 to 26. The second session, for ages 6 to 8, will be held the week of July 6 to 10. The camp for ages 9 to 11 will be held July 13 to 17.
All baseball camps will include specialized instruction and daily games while reinforcing fundamentals and skills development. The camp will be held at the Municipal Athletic Complex’s Bacon Field each day from 9 a.m.-noon.
A boys soccer league will run Monday and Wednesday nights throughout July, and a girls technical training camp will run Tuesday and Thursday mornings from July 7 to 30.
All soccer camps and leagues will take place on the turf field at Twin Pines.
Additional summer camps include the US Sports Institute multi-sport camp for children ages 5 to 10 and the Sport Squirts for ages 3 to 5, USSI Tennis Camp, Skate Camp and a Golf Camp at Stony Brook Golf Course.

The department is sponsoring a community trip to see “Oklahoma” at the Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, on July 1.
This trip for residents and guests is $86 per person ($75 for Hopewell Township residents) and includes motor coach transportation, admission to the matinee show and a lunch and dessert buffet.
Rogers and Hammerstein’s “Oklahoma!” is set in Western Indian territory with a handsome cowboy named Curly, and a spunky farm girl named Laurey, who are stubborn and foolish and in love.
Songs include “People Will Say We’re in Love,” “The Surrey With the Fringe on Top,” “Oh What a Beautiful Mornin” and “Oklahoma!”
The afternoon will begin with the Dutch Apple’s buffet of classic American cuisine, including a salad bar, freshly carved meats, rice, pasta, fresh vegetables and a dessert buffet.
On Aug. 18, the department will sponsor a trip to the Sands Casino in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
Located on the former Bethlehem Steel property, the Sands Casino has more than 3,000 slots as well as a variety of game tables. Visit the outlet stores, including Lenox, Corningware, Talbots and the Farmer’s Almanac General Store.
Participants will receive a $20 slot play and a $5 food voucher. Lunch is available at Burgers & More by Emeril, Carnegie Deli, The Market Gourmet Express or Steelworks Buffet & Grill.
For those who have never been to this Sands, bring a photo ID for a new casino card.
The cost of the trip is $35 per person ($30 for Hopewell Township residents). The trip departs at 8:30 a.m. from Independence Park and will return by 6 p.m.
