CRANBURY — A 75-year-old Monroe woman who went missing earlier in the day died after being struck by a vehicle while she was trying to cross Route 130 last Friday night, according to Cranbury Township Police Department.
Svetlana Yausaheva was reported missing from her residence in Rossmoor by her husband Viktor Khalfin at approximately 7:55 p.m., according to Monroe Township Police Department. She reportedly left her residence to go for a walk at 5:30 p.m., police said.
“Mr. Khalfin called the police when Svetlana did not return home after a few hours,” said Monroe Township Police Department Lt. Lisa Robinson.
Ms. Yausaheva was described as a white female and was last seen wearing dark pants with gray sneakers, she said.
According to police, she was entered into National Crime Information Center (NCIC) as a missing person. A Command Center was established within the Rossmoor community and a search ensued with the help of Monroe Fire Department and Monroe First Aid.
During the course of the search, Monroe police were informed of a fatal motor vehicle accident involving an elderly lady on Route 130 in Cranbury. A photo of Ms. Yausaheva was provided to the medics on scene of the fatal motor vehicle accident. Cranbury police confirmed the victim’s clothing as well as a birthmark found on the victim’s back, according to police.
The fatal accident occurred at 9:51 p.m. near the intersection of Route 130 and Old Trenton Road. As she crossed the northbound lanes of travel she was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound in the left lane of travel, according to Cranbury Township Police Department.
“We have not yet determined whether she was in the crosswalk,” said Cranbury Police Department Chief Rickey Varga. “However, by driver and independent witness accounts she was crossing against the signal; northbound traffic on Route 130 had the green traffic signal.”
Ms. Yausaheva was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Madan Dubey, 69, of South River, was driving a 1998 beige Toyota Camry, and was the sole occupant of the vehicle, according to police.
The Cranbury First Aid Squad took him to the University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro where he was treated for minor injuries and released, according to police.
The accident and subsequent investigation reduced northbound traffic on Route 130 to one lane for the remainder of the evening, police said.
Alcohol and drugs do not seem to be a contributing factor to the crash at this time. However, the matter is still under investigation, police said.
The Cranbury First Aid Squad, Cranbury Volunteer Fire Co., East Windsor police and paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital responded to the scene to assist with the accident.
Any witnesses are asked to contact Cranbury Police Sgt. Giuseppe DeChiara or Detective Sgt. Ryan Dworzanski at 609-395-0031.
