Amsterdam HSA holds 
basket auction and raffle 
Fri., June 5 — Amsterdam School and Home Association’s 17th annual “Fun in the Sun” basket auction at the school on Amsterdam Road.
Doors open at 6 p.m. First winning ticket will be called at 8:15.
An admission booklet must be purchased to enter. Admission is $12 ($15 at the door). Booklets and basket tickets can be purchased online using a debit or credit card through CommunityPass https://register.capturepoint.com/ASHA.
Pre-purchased basket tickets will be distributed at the door. Additional tickets will be for sale. In addition to a 50/50 raffle, $5 chances to win a “mystery prize.” No one under the age of 18 will be permitted to enter the basket auction. 
St. Mary’s Catholic Church 
holds monthly Slavic dinner 
Wed., June 10 — St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church holds its monthly dinner, 4 to 7 p.m., St. Mary Parish Center, 1900 Brooks Blvd. $13 for adults (ages 9 and up) and $5 for children (8 and younger). St. Mary’s Dance Group will perform between 5:45 and 6 p.m. All-you-can-eat pirohi, stuffed cabbage, kielbasa and sauerkraut, mashed potatoes. A surprise entrée will be prepared by St. Mary’s chef John Pagano. Orders to go available. For information, call 908-725-0615. Dinners are held on the second Wednesday of every month. 
Neshanic Garden Club members 
will tour nursery in Ringoes 
Thurs., June 11 — For its annual meeting, the Neshanic Garden Club will walk with a horticulturist through Rutgers Nursery on Route 202-31 in Ringoes at 10 a.m. A business meeting and installation of club 2015-16 officers will follow the tour. Lunch will be provided for a fee of $12. Prospective members are encouraged to attend. For information, contact club president Barbara Zielsdorff at 908-359-1750. 

at Spring Reins of Life event 
Sun., June 14 — Spring Reins of Life will host its second annual open house, live demonstration event, games and prizes at Foxx Creek Farm, 281 Long Hill Road. SROL is a volunteer-run organization offering equine-assisted psychotherapy to trauma survivors, specifically serving PTSD veterans, at-risk/high-risk youth and children’s bereavement, most of whom either do not want to, or simply cannot “talk about it.” There is no riding involved; the focus is to address mental, emotional and behavioral issues. 
Raritan Valley Symphonic Band 
plays Broadway tunes June 14 
Sun., June 14 — The Raritan Valley Symphonic Band will present its annual free pops concert at 3 p.m. in the auditorium of Bridgewater-Raritan High School, 600 Garretson Road, Bridgewater.
Under the musical direction of Christopher Sumner, the band will perform works of “Broadway through the Ages.” This program will have works of Cole Porter and George Gershwin, “Porgy and Bess” and musical scores from Richard Rogers, “The Sound of Music” and Leonard Bernstein. More recent works will include “Phantom of the Opera” by Andrew Lloyd Webber and “Beauty and the Beast.”

Job seekers will be encouraged 
to tell their story of being a ‘hero’ 
Wed., July 1 — Career search counselor John Hadley will discuss “How to Use Storytelling to Get Hired” to encourage job seekers who are unemployed, underemployed or seeking a career change at a support group program sponsored by the Jewish Family Service of Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties from 7-9 p.m. at its offices at 150-A West High St., Somerville.
Mr. Hadley will show how to tell a “hero” story in a manner that’s interesting, that flows and shows the progression in a career, and steers the interviewer to ask follow-up questions that will advance a candidacy.
This group is offered free of charge and is open to the entire community. Funding for this program is provided by grants from United Way of Hunterdon County and Magyar Bank. GOP says ‘save the date’ 
for Royce Brook golf outing 
Mon., July 13 — Hillsborough GOP will hold a golf outing at Royce Brook Golf Course on Hamilton Road. Check-in and lunch at 11:30 a.m., with a 1 p.m. scramble start. Dinner will follow golf. $200 for greens fees, cart, beverage cart, lunch and 6 p.m. dinner (with one-hour open bar). Dinner only for $65. Music by local band Tastes Like Chicken. Continuing events 
Community theater — Somerset Valley Players presents “Moon Over Buffalo,” on weekends from June 5 to 21 at the theater at 689 Amwell Road (Route 514). Shows are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.
Shenanigans comically light up a backstage dressing room in 1953 Buffalo. A married pair of boisterous and bickering actors continually confuse their plays while coping with misunderstood identities and slamming doors. The show is directed by Lance Hilfman.

VFW meetings: Monthly meetings of Hillsborough VFW Post 8371 are held on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. in the county nutrition center, 339 South Branch Road. The post’s mission is to honor and help other veterans. All veterans with foreign service are welcome. For information about activities, contact Ron Miller at 908-369-5195.
Coping with addiction — Parents of Addicted Children helps parents understand and cope with drug problems they are facing, and will face, with their children. Meets first and third Monday of the month, 6:30-7:30 p.m., at Neshanic Reformed Church, 715 Amwell Road.
Alzheimer’s support group — The Alzheimer’s Association has a support group in Hillsborough. Family members and caregivers come together to share information and support in a safe, confidential atmosphere.
Meetings are the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. at Mary, Mother of God Church at 157 So. Triangle Road. Call 908-431-1300 if attending.
Divorce support group — A nondenominational support group to help separated and divorced people to a new beginning.
The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of the month from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Hillsborough Presbyterian Church, Route 206 at Homestead Road. The next scheduled meeting is June 23. Call 908-295-6740. 
