coLAB events to focus on gender identity

The June programs of coLAB Arts will examine “Transition: A Discussion of Gender Identity.” coLAB Arts and the Pride Center of NJ will co-present the play “Lonely Planet” by Steven Dietz that explores friendship and fear in the age of AIDS. The one-night performance fundraiser will be 7-9 p.m. June 22 at the Pride Center of New Jersey, 85 Raritan Ave., Suite 100, Highland Park. A book club will be held 6-8 p.m. June 17 at Christopher’s Lounge in The Heldrich Hotel, 10 Livingston Ave., New Brunswick, to discuss Imogen Binnie’s “Nevada,” a darkly comedic story of Maria Griffiths, a young trans woman living in New York City trying to stay true to her punk values while working retail.

A creative writing workshop will be held 1-4 p.m. June 20 at the Unity Square Community Center, 81 Remsen Ave., New Brunswick, focusing on short fiction and poetry.
