HIGHTSTOWN: East Windsor PAL soccer round-up

The East Windsor PAL U9 Arsenal clinched their second consecutive MOSA Championship with two games remaining. The Arsenal defeated their toughest opponent, Freehold, 4-1 on goals from Allie Szelag, Angelina Benitez, Rachael Charsky, and Abigail Carter. The Arsenal will now shoot for their second consecutive undefeated season with two road games in Berkeley and Ocean Township. East Windsor has now won three MOSA league titles in four seasons.
The U-13 Storm dropped a 2-1 decision to Rumson’s Lil Dawgs. Grace O’Leary scored the Storm’s lone goal in a game riddled with struck posts and near misses. The midfield was the story of the game with outstanding play from Payton Rupp, Olivia Silador, Mikayla Capasso and Jessica Saldutti. Nicole Masone dominated as Stopper in the 2nd half after recording a clean sheet as Keeper throughout the first. Sweeper Danielle Faup and defensive back Erin DiPiano kept Rumson’s chances limited to long range shots, two of which found the twine.
The Storm dropped a 3-1 decision to the Wall Tsunami losing 3-1 despite an outstanding effort. The Storm’s depleted defense of Jess Gratkowski, Lili Iavarone, Nikki Masone and Erin DiPiano played well for all 70 minutes, combining with keeper Mary Kate Hartnett and midfielder Rupp to keep Wall scoreless through the first half. In the second half, Faup crossed to the onrushing Ragan McKenna, who gave Storm the 1-0 lead with her fifth goal of the season. But Wall tallied the final three goals to win it.
