
The second “Second Friday” event will take place downtown in Cranbury. Businesses will extend their regular hours for a fun family night of summer shopping and dining. The Cranbury Players will provide music on Main Street. To kick off the event, the Cranbury Bookworm will celebrate its second anniversary at its new location with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 6 p.m. 
Sat., June 13 

Columbus will host its 77th annual Field Day parade and community park activities. The parade will start at 11 a.m. and will travel through the village of Columbus. 
Cranbury Museum, located at 4 Park Place East in Cranbury, is open from 1-4 p.m. The current special exhibit is “Stults Farm, Est. 1915: 100 Years of Family Farming.” Guided docent tours are also available. Donations are appreciated. 
The Beth El Synagogue of East Windsor Werner Lecture Fund will be presenting the entertainer, singer and storyteller Naomi Miller in “From Klezmer to Broadway” at 7 p.m. Admission is $18. The synagogue is located at 50 Maple Stream Road in East Windsor. For more information, call 609-443-4454. 
Mon., June 15 

Father Tom Ganley will be offering a Mass at 7:30 p.m. for healing at St. Mary Church in Bordentown. During the Mass, a collection will be taken for Father Tom and his ministry. Following the Mass will be individual prayer and laying on of hands for the sick. Father Tom is an author, a speaker on divine mercy and ministers in the gift of healing. Community Unity, along with St. Anthony’s Social Justice Committee, the League of Women Voters of East Windsor-Hightstown and the Interfaith Coalition for Peace and Justice will sponsor a discussion based on a Michelle Alexander interview and excerpts from her book, “The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in an Age of Colorblindness” from 7-9 p.m. at Mount Olivet Baptist Church, located at 21 Rev. 
Cranbury Freedom is conducting an open training session for interested players from 5:30-7 p.m. behind Cranbury Middle School at 3 North Main St. The team will compete in EDP and will participate in tournaments and college showcases throughout the state and region. The club will offer guidance on college recruiting procedures and is trained by Daryl Schwenck and Lissette Brandao. Beth El Synagogue in East Windsor is hosting an American Barbecue Carlebach Shabbat at 6 p.m. The evening will feature outdoor services to the tunes of Shlomo Carlebach followed by a barbecue dinner. Sign up by June 8 and the cost for dinner is $12 for adults and $8 for children. Sign up after June 8 and the cost for dinner is $15 for adults and $10 for children. The third annual East Windsor Autism Awareness Dance-a-thon and Raffle benefiting Talk About Curing Autism (TACA) will take place from 7 p.m. to midnight at the East Windsor Elks. The cost to attend is $20 in advance and $25 at the door. There will be a cash bar, 50/50, food, photo booth, dancing and door prizes. The lodge is located at 110 Hickory Corner Road in East Windsor. The Woman’s Auxiliary of the Bordentown Elks 2085 at 11 Amboy Ave. in Bordentown will be holding its annual gift auction. Doors open at 5 p.m., with the auction starting at 7 p.m. Admission is $5, with food and refreshments available for purchase. No outside food or drinks permitted. 
Sat., June 27 

Cranbury musicians will present a concert at 7 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church of Cranbury’s Fellowship Hall at 22 S. Main St. The concert will feature classical music and show tunes by Francine Hannay, Bernhard, Philipp and Max Geiger and Leslie Hart. The suggested donation is $20 per person and proceeds will benefit the new Cranbury Community Library. 
The community of churches in the greater Bordentown area will be hosting the first Bordentown Area Ecumenical Summer Festival at Retro Fitness of Bordentown, located at 860 Route 206 in Bordentown, at noon. Bring folding chairs, blankets, umbrellas and picnic lunches and enjoy an afternoon of music from Bordentown area church choirs. Hightstown Theatre in the Park is for students ages 12-16 who want to explore acting and theatre techniques through games, and acting exercises at the gazebo in Association Park. 
East Windsor’s Independence Day celebration will take place in Etra Lake Park. The rain date is Sunday, July 5.
The free entertainment begins at 6 p.m. with “Jerry Rife’s Rhythm Kings Dixieland Jazz Band,” a six-piece band from the Delaware Valley area best known for its traditional jazz sound.
They will be followed at 7:30 p.m. by the “Trenton Brass Quintet Plus One,” a six-piece ensemble from Central Jersey performing Americana and a variety of popular melodies.
The fireworks display will commence at approximately 9:30 p.m. 


Holy Cross Lutheran Church, located at 280 Crosswicks Road in Bordentown, will be having its annual Summer Vacation Bible School this week through July 31. There will be a morning session for children age 3 to kindergarten and an evening session for children in kindergarten through 5th grade. The theme for this year is “Everest” and children will embark on an icy expedition and overcome obstacles with God’s power. “Family Night in the Park” will take place in Etra Lake Park in East Windsor and will feature a large-screen viewing of the movie “Big Hero 6.” The evening will begin at 7 p.m. with free inflatable rides, games, and vendors. 

Holy Cross Lutheran Preschool: Registration for the 2015-16 school year for both Pre-K-3 and Pre-K-4 programs continues to be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Call Preschool Director Kathy Schroeder at 609- 298-2880 ext. 101 for availability.
Community dinner: Rise and the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen offer free hot meals at the First Presbyterian Church, 320 N. Main St., Hightstown, on Mondays from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and the First United Methodist Church, 187 Stockton St., Hightstown, on Thursdays from 4:30 to 6 p.m. All meals are provided free on an unconditional, no-questions-asked basis. Volunteers are welcome.
Food Pantry: The Rise Food Pantry is open 52 weeks a year from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and from 5 to 7 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month. Baby care items, personal products and all nonperishable and perishable food items are needed for local families. The pantry welcomes locally grown fruits and vegetables. Food can be donated directly to the pantry at 225 Franklin St., Hightstown, during operating hours or to the Greater Goods Thrift Store, 114 Rogers Ave., Hightstown. The Greater Goods Thrift Store at 114 Rogers Avenue in Hightstown is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. six days a week, Monday through Saturday. Recycle gently used clothing, furniture and household items with a tax-deductible donation. Proceeds support the Rise Food Pantry, youth programs and provides social services to local struggling families and individuals.
Women bowlers meet from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoons for the Pin Spotters League at East Windsor Lanes. No experience needed. Call 609-448-0279 for more information.
Sons of the American Legion Squadron 455 all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet takes place every first Sunday of the month and benefits the community, veterans and their families. The event goes from 7 to 11 a.m. at American Legion Post 455, 2 Meadowbrook Lane (across from Agway), New Egypt. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children 6-12.
