WEST WINDSOR: Police rewarding children for practicing safe bicycle techniques

Children who show they can ride their bicycles safely, such as wearing a bicycle helmet, may find themselves sipping free Slurpees, compliments of West Windsor Township police and the Princeton Junction 7-Eleven convenience store.
Police officers are patrolling neighborhoods in West Windsor, looking for youngsters who are practicing safe bicycle techniques. The officers may reward children with a coupon that is good for one free small Slurpee through the “Slurpees for Safety” program.
The coupon can be redeemed at the Princeton Junction 7-Eleven convenience store, on the corner of Princeton-Hightstown Road and Alexander Road. The program runs from June to September. It is being jointly sponsored by the West Windsor Township Police Benevolent Association — with the support of Chief of Police Joseph Pica — and the convenience store.
“We believe this will encourage children to wear their helmets and ride their bicycles safely. Police officers on patrol will be able to reward them for doing so,” said Patrolman Justin Insalaco, who is one of the police officers organizing the “Safety for Slurpees” initiative.
