HILLSBOROUGH: School administrator Stys receives service award

Hillsborough resident Timothy Stys, the business administrator and board secretary at Watchung Hills Regional High School District, recently was honored by the N.J. Association of School Business Officials with a Distinguished Service Award for his long-term, continuous exemplary service.
As part of the award, Mr. Stys had the honor of presenting a $1,000 scholarship from NJASBO to Watchung Hills Regional High School senior Anthony Garcia.
Among six distinguished service awardees statewide, Mr. Stys has served in the Watchung Hills Regional High School District since 2007. Prior to that, he served in the same role for the Montgomery Township and North Plainfield school districts, and Somerset County Vocational & Technical Schools. He was assistant board administrator for the Middlesex County Vocational & Technical Schools at the start of his career in school business administration from 1992 to 1995.
In nominating Mr. Stys for the Distinguished Service Award, Hillsborough Board Secretary and Business Administrator Aiman Mahmoud, president of Somerset County ASBO, said, “Tim is the main contact for county questions and has shared insightful solutions to difficult problems.”
Mr. Stys received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the Rutgers School of Business, and a master’s degree in education administration from Rider University. Mr. Stys has served as president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer of SCASBO. He also is a member of the N.J. Society of CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs.
Mr. Stys and his wife of 26 years, Patti, have two children, Natalie and Randy.
NJASBO is a professional association that promotes the highest standards of ethics and efficiency, provides its membership with professional development and support, and collaborates with entities that affect public education. The organization comprises individuals who administer or supervise a variety of operations within the school district. Examples include accounting, budgeting, data processing, environmental issues, food service management, maintenance, negotiations, payroll, purchasing and transportation. 
