EAST WINDSOR: Meadow Lakes awards employees with $62K in tuition grants

EAST WINDSOR — Residents of Springpoint Senior Living’s continuing care retirement community Meadow Lakes donated approximately $62,000 to help young employees and their families lessen the burden of high tuition costs and college debt.
At the 14th annual ceremony held at Meadow Lakes on June 25, winning applicants received up to $2,000 each from the resident-initiated and -funded Meadow Lakes Education Award Fund.
The winners represent students enrolled at various East Coast colleges from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. to Quinnipiac University in Connecticut and many in between, including The College of New Jersey, Rider University, Rutgers University, Mercer County Community College and others.
Degree programs of participating students range from accounting and finance, business administration, medical, nursing, physical therapy, and sociology to name a few.
“This fund invests in outstanding students employed at Meadow Lakes who have achieved positive work and academic records,” Jane Brewer, a resident and chair of the education award fund, said. “Through hard work and determination these students have proven their abilities and set an example for others to follow. The Meadow Lakes Education Award Fund recognizes and rewards their efforts, encouraging their career goals. This is the residents’ way of saying thanks and paying it forward.”
Tuition grant winners were selected based on an interview with the selection committee and an essay describing their proposed future career and the influences leading to this choice. For returning students, the essays are intended to convey the effect their studies are having on their career and, for new students, what influenced their decision to choose their career path.
The Meadow Lakes Education Award Fund was launched in 2002 at the suggestion of Meadow Lakes’ residents who wanted a way to recognize outstanding service and to help both full- and part-time employees further their education goals.
