N.J. Golf Foundation awards scholarship to junior golfer

 Brad Demitus Brad Demitus The New Jersey Golf Foundation (NJGF), the charitable arm of the New Jersey Section, PGA of America (NJPGA), announced the recipients of the prestigious Peter A. Famiano Memorial Scholarship. Junior golfer Brad Demitus of Colonia was one of four awarded scholarships and honored at the Seventh Annual New Jersey Golf Foundation Peter A. Famiano Memorial Pro-Am on July 2 at Crestmont Country Club in West Orange.

Peter Famiano was the head golf professional at Crestmont Country Club for more than 35 years. In honor of Famiano, the NJGF created the Peter A. Famiano Memorial Scholarship, which recognizes worthy New Jersey junior golfers for their professionalism, integrity, volunteerism and willingness to help others. It is a $2,500 annual scholarship that is open to college students of any class year, provided they continue to meet the standards set forth by the Scholarship Committee. The NJGF Scholarship Committee reviews all applications using the following criteria: scholarship achievement, qualities of character and leadership, financial need, volunteer history and future in golf.

“The 2015 Peter A. Famiano Memorial Scholarship recipients have distinguished themselves on the golf course, and more importantly, as well respected young men and women within their communities,” said Chris Hunt, executive director, New Jersey Golf Foundation. “Peter Famiano was always committed to helping others, and it’s rewarding for us to support the continuing education of these deserving individuals in Peter’s honor.”

Demitus graduated in 2015 from Colonia High School, where he was not only a top-ranking student but also captain of his golf team and two-year all-division player. In his senior yea,r he earned all-conference honors. He will be attending Fairleigh Dickinson University as part of the class of 2019, majoring in doctor of pharmacy.
