UPPER FREEHOLD — A firefighter from the Millstone Township Fire Company was injured while she was battling a blaze in Upper Freehold Township.
Officials said firefighter Stephanie Carbin sustained a serious back injury when she fell during the early stages of an incident at 15 Harmony Hill Road on July 20.
The New Jersey State Division of Fire Safety investigated a fire that involved multiple vehicles, but could not determine the cause of the fire.
Carbin was treated at the scene by personnel from the Plumsted Fire District Emergency Medical Services unit and transported to Capital Health System Hopewell Campus.
She was later transferred to Capital Health System Regional Campus and has since been released from the hospital.
Tammori Petty, director of communications with the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, shared the findings from the Division of Fire Safety in an email on July 24.
“There is nothing that makes us believe (the fire) was suspicious,” Petty said. “With respect to the firefighter’s injury, it appears to be (due to) a loss of footing.”
Under the direction of Lt. Mike Maloney, Millstone firefighters arrived at the scene to find two pick-up trucks on fire at the rear of the residence.
The firefighters began efforts to suppress the fire with a hose line and the blaze was eventually extinguished by firefighters from Millstone and from the Hope Fire Company of Upper Freehold Township, Maloney said.
Also responding to the incident were the New Jersey State Police, the Monmouth County Fire Marshal’s Office and the Allentown First Aid Squad.
