WOODBRIDGE — A Colonia man has been charged in connection with the July 22 murder of the woman with whom he shared a Devon Road home, according to authorities.
Vito Nigro, 42, was charged with murder and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in the death of 32-year-old Giorgina Nigro.
A judge set bail at $750,000 for the defendant, who is being held at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick and was listed in stable condition.
The investigation began July 22, after police were dispatched to the couple’s home in Colonia.
Their marital status was unclear.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:01 a.m. An autopsy performed by the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Nigro died from blunt and sharp force trauma, and that she was the victim of a homicide.
Nigro was charged after an investigation by Detective Andrew Kondracki of the Woodbridge Police Department and Detective Craig Marchak of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call Kondracki at 732-634-7700, or Marchak at 732-745-3254.
