HILLSBOROUGH: Rain postpones opening of Rotary Club fair

Rainy weather has forced postponement of the opening of the Hillsborough Rotary Club’s eighth annual fair. It will now open tomorrow night, Wednesday, at 6 p.m.
The fair will run through Sunday, Aug. 16, on the field adjacent to the Lowe’s store in the Hillsborough Promenade at 315 Route 206.
Wednesday will be added to the wristband nights, during which unlimited rides can be taken with one price.
Fireworks will light up the skies on Friday at about 9:30 p.m. If it rains, the display will be held the next night. Petrock’s Liquors and Bar and Grill is the major firework’s sponsor.
Improvements over the years should allow the site to handle rain, said Rotary Club President John Shockley. A fine crushed stone has been over the entire surface in the last few years, he said.
The six-day carnival attracts as many as 15,000 people, and is one of the township’s largest annual community events. Fair proceeds go directly to support Hillsborough community organizations and causes.
Majestic Midway Amusements has added a couple of rides to bring the total to 24, said Wayne Inners, a member of the family that has run the business since 1909. Featured rides include the Himalayan, Bumper Cars, Ring of Fire, Super Shot, Sizzler, Zipper, Carousel and Kite Flyer.
Majestic rolled into Hillsborough after breaking down the show after it closed Sunday at 11 p.m. in Deal.
Mr. Shockley said he was happy to see a young kids’ tent of rides and games for youngsters under the minimum height to go on many rides.
Paladin Amusements will provide food. There’ll be food, displays by area vendors and a petting zoo.
Thursday and Sunday will also be pay-one-price wristband nights.
The fair will also include nightly entertainment and special demonstrations. The 101.5 New Jersey radio station host, Ray “The Prize Guy,” is scheduled to attend the fair on Friday night.
