HIGHTSTOWN: Plays in the park give young stars nights to shine

By Amy Batista, Special Writer
The plays in the park have gone dark after completing another stellar season.
Hightstown Theatre in the Park presented “The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon,” written by Don Zolidis, at Association Park on July 31 at 7 p.m., Aug. 1 at 7 p.m. and Aug. 2 at 3 p.m. The production was sponsored by the Hightstown Parks and Recreation Committee.
“It’s a great play,” East Windsor Regional Board of Education member Peter Bussone said. “It’s very funny. The talent that is coming into the theater program into the high school is going to be unsurpassed.”
“It was a comedy mishmash of some of the Grimm fairy tales including Rapunzel, Hansel and Gretel, The Fisher Girl, The Frog Prince, Snow White, Cinderella to name a few,” said East Windsor resident Jeanette Schneider.
Her daughter Jillian starred in the play this summer.
“It was a great experience where they learned about the theater and acting through games and made new friendships,” Ms. Schneider said.
The play’s executive director was Kerrie Peterson. The creative director was Tallen Olsen and assistant director was Miranda Contreras-Peterson.
Mr. Bussone congratulated the Hightstown High School and Mr. Olsen for providing leadership for the play and the kids.
“Congratulations to everyone involved,” he said.
Last year, the play season ended with a surplus of $200 and this year it ended with $1,400, he added.
“It will go to scholarships to help provide funding for more children to get involved in it next year,” he said.
