Clothing button enthusiasts, ranging in age from preschoolers to senior citizens, are invited to Titusville on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a New Jersey State Button Society show and competition.
Four-year-old Elena Ibanez, the granddaughter of John and Lucy Boyd, of Pennington, was the youngest button collector to visit the show last spring.
“When my daughter and her family visited from London for a month, the first thing we did was to take Elena to the button show,” Mr. Boyd said. “Although we did lots of other sightseeing, it was her favorite activity of the trip.”
The show attracts quilters, crafters and those seeking special buttons to wear. Dealers from all over the East Coast sell vintage, antique and modern buttons. The activities also include educational displays and a button raffle.
At 1:30 p.m. Sept. 12, Annie Frazier, former president of the National Button Society, will give a competition and judging workshop.
“Our members share an interest in studying, collecting and preserving clothing buttons, both old and new,” said Sara Mulford, president.
Shows are held at the Union Fire Company at 1396 River Road at the intersection of Route 29 and Park Lake Avenue in Hopewell Township. There is free parking.
Admission is $2 for adults and free to juniors to age 17.

The society was founded in 1941 at a time when a nationwide interest in button collecting was surging. It will celebrate its diamond anniversary at the spring show Saturday, May 7, at the same place and time.
