WEST WINDSOR: Fire destroys Haverford Road house

BY Lea Kahn, Staff Writer
WEST WINDSOR — The cause of a two-alarm fire that destroyed a single-family home on Haverford Road — off Southfield Road — Friday night is still under investigation, according to Emergency Services Director James Yates.
The fire was reported around 8 p.m. by neighbors and passers-by, Mr. Yates said. The house was well involved in flames by the time the first firefighters arrived on the scene. No one was home at the time of the fire.
The fire, which was brought under control in about an hour, apparently started in the basement, Mr. Yates said. The first and second floors collapsed into the basement. Firefighters fought the blaze from outside of the house.
Although the cause of the fire has not been determined, “we are satisfied that it was not suspicious. It was accidental,” Mr. Yates said.
The West Windsor Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1, the Princeton Junction Volunteer Fire Co. and West Windsor Fire and Emergency Services responded to the fire, as well as mutual aid fire companies from Plainsboro and East Windsor townships.
