Satellite campus to offer German classes

RUMSON — The German School of Monmouth County will offer 55-minute German-language classes each Wednesday at its new satellite location at The Rumson Country Day School, 35 Bellevue Ave., Rumson.

The small-group classes are for students in grades pre-K through 12 and scheduled to begin Sept. 30 from 4-4:55 p.m. The school also has a 45-minute Mini-Mäuse music and movement program for babies and toddlers and their caregivers.

With more than 3,000 words in English derived from German, fluent German speakers are sought after in the global economy, where more than 100 million people communicate in German each day, according to the school’s press release.

“We’re finding families are interested in exploring German as a preferred second language to differentiate themselves when applying for college, while exposing their children to another culture and perhaps even reconnecting with family who live abroad,” said German Language School Principal Michaela Greco in the press release. “The additional campus offers classes for very small group interactions on a weekly basis and fosters ‘Weltoffenheit’ — an openness to the world, which prepares our children for their role as global citizens.”
