The League of Women Voters of Hopewell Valley will participate in National Voter Registration Day, a nationwide, nonpartisan effort to register voters on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
The League will be on the front lawn of Hopewell’s Boro Bean from 8:30 to 10 a.m. to assist voters who want to register or update their registration if they have moved. Boro Bean is located at 9 E. Broad Street, Hopewell.
Active for 53 years in Hopewell Valley, the local League also will be registering voters at two other events this fall.
On Saturday, Sept. 26, the League will be at Hopewell Harvest Fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Harvest Fair is held on the playing fields of Hopewell Elementary School, Princeton Ave., Hopewell.
Also there will be League members on Saturday, Oct. 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Pennington Farmer’s Market. The market is located in front of Rosedale Mills, 101 Route 31 north, Pennington.
National Voter Registration Day, founded by the League and other voting rights and community organizations in 2012, has been a highly effective nonpartisan campaign to register tens of thousands of eligible voters on one single day.
“We are excited to be a part of this event in Hopewell and across the country,” said Joann Held, HoVal League president. “With each voter we register, the League is helping to get as many people participating as possible. This is our democracy and our elected officials need to hear from all of us on Election Day. Voter registration is the key to helping Americans participate in the political process.
“The League of Women Voters empowers voters through education, registration and get-out-the-vote activities in every election,” said Ms. Held. “We host candidate and issue forums and registration drives, while also providing trusted and timely election information on www.VOTE411.org. We do this because we believe our democracy is strongest when every voice is heard.”
