HIGHTSTOWN: EW PAL soccer round-up

The East Windsor PAL 10U Arsenal defeated their tough rivals, the Freehold Lightning, 2-1, in MOSA Premier travel soccer play. Rachael Charsky opened the scoring in the first half and Abigail Carter added another before halftime.
The story of the second half was the impressive Arsenal Defense with Anna Zappola, Marcella Hirschman,and Megan Khazem holding off the Freehold attack. Several outstanding saves by Radha Ghate and Angelina Benitez helped preserve the victory. Arsenal is now unbeaten in 22 consecutive MOSA league games.
The U14 Storm overcame a slow start for a 4-0 win over the Point Pleasant Pride. Julia Gorajek started the scoring firing a shot off a give and go from Payton Rupp. The Pride tried to rally but couldn’t break through the defense of Dani Faup, Lizzy Barrett, Jess Gratkowksi or Lili Iavarone.
Early in the second half Aly finally gave Storm some breathing room, out-fighting the keeper for the rebound from a shot by Grace O’Leary. O’Leary scored soon after off a punt from Keeper Nikki Masone, who also shared the shutout with Mary Kate Hartnett. Rupp helped Storm finish it off putting a through ball to O’Leary who deked the keeper and put the game away for good.
PRE-CADET
The Pre Cadet Girls Lightning, sponsored by Conair Corporation, enjoyed a narrow victory over East Windsor PBA No. 191 Saturday. Forward Olivia Muniz scored the team’s first goal of the season. After PBA tied it, rookie midfielder, Carly Sweeney scored to the final goal of the game to make it 2-1. Rookie goalie Grace Klim made the play of the game when she saved a penalty kick to preserve the victory.
