Historic Cranbury House Tour: The Next Generation, presented by the Cranbury Historical and Preservation Society, will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Main Street in Cranbury. Tickets are on sale online at www.cranburyhistory.org, at local businesses, or are available by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope with a check for $20 to: House Tour Tickets, 6 S. The Cranbury Township Police Department will participate in Operation Take Back with a collection site in police headquarters at 1 Logan Drive, Cranbury, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This program is anonymous and all efforts are made to protect the anonymity of individuals disposing of medications. No questions or requests for identification will be made. A law enforcement officer will remain with the drug disposal box at all times. Prescription labels should be removed. Syringes and other sharp instruments will not be accepted.
Readathon for Adult Literacy will take place at 1:30 p.m. in the Hickory Corner branch of the Mercer County Library System at 138 Hickory Corner Road in East Windsor. Literacy New Jersey celebrates the joy of reading and Adult Literacy Month by inviting everyone to read aloud from a favorite book for five minutes. East Windsor will participate in Operation Medicine Cabinet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This program offers residents the opportunity to dispose of all unused, unwanted and expired prescription medications in a safe manner. The township will have a drop box in the lobby of the police/court building at 80 One Mile Road for the collection of these various medications.
College Financial Planning Workshop will start at 10 a.m. in the Robbinsville Library. Douglas Schorpp, a registered investment advisor with Schorpp Capital Management, will explain the FAFSA and the EFC and demonstrate how to maximize financial aid eligibility, pay for college in the most cost efficient way, find colleges with the best financial aid packages and increase college-related tax deductions and tax credits. The Monroe Township Police Department will give the public its tenth opportunity in five years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Bring pills for disposal to Monroe Township Police Department at 3 Municipal Plaza in Monroe from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Only pills and patches will be collected free of charge and anonymously. No liquids or needles will be accepted. 


A golf outing, sponsored by the Miracle League of Mercer County, will be held at Old York Country Club in Chesterfield, with registration starting at 11 a.m. Proceeds from the event will be used for ongoing programs to provide children with disabilities the opportunity to play baseball, and for maintenance of the baseball field at the Hamilton YMCA facility on Sawmill Road. Flu shots, freecycling, health screenings, a shredding truck, environmentally-themed arts and crafts and more will be featured at Monroe Township’s sixth annual Green Fair, which will be held at the Oak Tree School on Applegarth Road from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 3. The Green Fair allows visitors to meet directly with vendors and a wide array of environmentally-friendly organizations, committees and businesses. The Monroe Township Public Library will host environmentally-themed story times, puppet shows and arts and crafts, and the Monroe Township High School Environmental Club will host games for children. The Green Fair will also feature tours of the Oak Tree School, which was built to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards. The fair will also feature a freecycling area, where residents can bring unwanted but functional items such as furniture, electronics, clothing, fish tanks, and other residents can give those items new homes. Any items not reclaimed will be given to RISE, a nonprofit organization based out of Hightstown that provides referral and support services to area families and individuals in need.
The Saint Vincent de Paul Society of St. John the Baptist Church in Allentown is sponsoring a Fall Flea Market from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the church parking lot rain or shine. The cost is $20 per space and $5 per table, with a refundable deposit check of $20 to be collected at the time of set up. The event will feature baked goods, hot dogs, and soft pretzels for purchase. The Golden Agers along with the Cranbury Recreation Commission will be sponsoring a senior citizens trip to The Royal Manor in Garfield to see “Oktoberfest: A Fun-Filled German-Style Celebration.” The event will feature Alex Meixner and his band of Grammy Award-nominated musicians, Alys Schaffer dancers, German bell ringing and a family-style lunch. The deluxe motor coach bus will leave from the First Presbyterian Church parking lot at 9:30 a.m. and will return at 5:30 p.m. The fee for this trip is $48 per person (all gratuities included). The 26th annual Millstone Township Halloween Parade will be held at 2 p.m. Parking, registration and parade lineup will take place between 1:45 p.m. and 2 p.m. at the fields behind the Clarksburg Inn on Route 524. During the parade, Route 524 will be closed to through traffic. Goody bags will be distributed and prizes will be awarded for scariest, funniest, prettiest, most original and most patriotic. Donations of individually wrapped candy will be accepted through Oct. 19 at the Millstone Firehouse at 461 Stage Coach Road in Clarksburg, between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. This event is being coordinated by the Millstone Township Fire Company Ladies’ Auxiliary and is sponsored by Millstone Township area businesses and organizations. Movie Club: This club meets on the third Thursday of the month at 1 p.m. in the Cranbury Public Library at 23 N. Main St. in Cranbury Join the lively discussions about movies.
Central Jersey Chapter 148 of Korean War Veterans Association: Any veterans who served during the war from June 25, 1950 to July 27, 1953 or who have served in Korea from July 27, 1953 to the current date can join the group that meets at 10 a.m. the second Wednesday of every month (except January, February, March and April) at the Monroe Township Municipal Building. Requirements for membership include paying dues of $25 to the Korean War Veterans Association and a $10 chapter fee per year. The chapter is involved in various functions throughout the year including parades with color guard, flag raisings, Korean War memorial ceremonies, funerals and more.
