A Princeton man who should be spending his senior year at Princeton University instead was sentenced Monday to five years in state prison for being a drug dealer.
Julian Edgren, 21, will not begin serving his prison sentence right away, as he deals with a medical issue, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office said. He is free on $25,000 bail and due to surrender to authorities Nov.13.
Mr. Edgren was arrested Jan.6 on campus after picking up an overseas shipment of ecstasy mailed to him at the Frist Campus Center. The package had been intercepted in mid-December by federal authorities, the Prosecutor’s Office has said.
Law enforcement authorities were stationed inside and outside Frist to see who picked up the delivery, the Prosecutor’s Office said at the time. They swooped in after he signed for that and two other packages.
Mr. Edgren also had a duffel bag that contained various drugs, including marijuana and liquid LSD, as well as two digital scales, a laptop and $400. Later, a search of his dorm in Edwards Hall uncovered more drugs, “31 marijuana cookies and assorted drug paraphernalia,” the Prosecutor’s Office said.
He was charged with multiple drug offenses. All the charges left him open to around 10-20 years in state prison if he had been convicted at trial, the Prosecutor’s Office said.
In July, he pleaded guilty to possessing LSD with intent to distribute.
