HOWELL — Howell Day will be celebrated for a 43rd year from 1-8 p.m. Oct. 3 at Soldier Memorial Park, Lakewood-Farmingdale Road, Howell. Everyone is invited to attend the community event.
Howell Day will kick off with a performance by the Howell High School marching band. The day will also feature performances by the Phil Engel Band, the Hound Dogs and Screaming Broccolli.
“We have inflatable rides, mechanical rides, a video game truck, face painting, public works vehicles kids can check out, and we will have food vendors and other vendors,” said Steven Fecher, director of community relations.
“We will conclude the event with fireworks at about 7:30 p.m. Parking and all rides are free. We like to bring the community together, the businesses, the residents and the township and celebrate Howell as a whole,” Fecher said.
MayorWilliam Gotto said, “Howell Day started a number of years ago to be an event to bring people together.”
Representatives of municipal organizations such as the community alliance and emergency services units will be in attendance, according to the mayor.
Howell Day “is very community based. It is run by local organizations, local businesses, people who want to make themselves more visible to the community to let residents know some of the good things they are doing,” Gotto said.
“We have community organizations that are part of the event and a lot of it is business driven so local businesses … have an opportunity to get themselves out there so residents know what they are, where they are, what they do. … It is a good way … to let people know the good things we have going on in town,” the mayor said.
After many years at Oak Glen Park, Howell Day moved to Soldier Memorial Park in 2014.
“It was successful last year and we are back again for the second year,” Fecher said.
During Howell Day, there will be parking available at Howell High School and Howell Middle School South and shuttle buses running to and from Soldier Memorial Park from those locations. The event will take place rain or shine.
