HOPEWELL: HVSA travel soccer

Strong Defense from Rex Peters, Lukas Ansari, and Alex Romano led the Hopewell Valley Soccer Association’s U10 Riptides to a 5-0 win over Princeton Football Club. Kieran Karp and Brandon Napoleon each had a goal and two assists. Also scoring goals were Charlie Stocks-Natalias, Will Stover and Matthew Whitlock. Daniel Golian and Cameron Velez added strong midfield play in the win.
The U10 Sun Dogs rolled to a 5-0 win over Piscataway. Highlighting the win was a spectacular diving save by goalie Kennedy Havens, who then punted downfield and picked up an assist when Casey von Oehsen converted the pass into the second of her three goals on the day. Alexa Marino and Gillian Magner also scored, while strong defense came from Ana Chrnelich, Katie Yancey and Frankie Somers. Versatile Chloe Johnson contributed from several different positions.
The U-11 Bolts fell to the Cranford Crew, 4-2. Alex Luedeke scored both Bolts’ goals, the first coming on a rebound after a hard shot by Ethan Gross and the second assisted by Merrick Liu. Han Sol Kim and Shane Finnegan created a number of opportunities on offense. Kevin Ellis and Liam Sciple played well in the midfield. Defenders Aldo Branham, Henry Garnich, Tom Hooks and Gunnar Casano, along with goalie Bradley Shreve, limited the Crew’s offense.
The U11 Tsunami remained undefeated (1-0-1) in MNJYSA Flight 1 play with a 2-0 win over the Millburn SC Fury. The Tsunamis received goals from Andie Cappucci and Ava Brass with assists from Brass and Madison Ayres. Kirsten Ruf stood out in goal leading the Tsunamis to a clean sheet. Kathryn McCabe, Caroline Mormile, Emma Smith, Maggie Buglino and Charlotte Tellier created a number of chances for the Tsunami offense. The back line of Addie Sullivan, Mae Fesmire, Rory Danieluk and Ayres were key to the Tsunami’s success.
On Saturday, the Tsunami lost a tough match in the first round of the NJYS National Championship series to the top ranked U11 team in New Jersey. Leah McManimon scored in the first half on a beautiful strike from the 18 but the Tsunami couldn’t hold on for the victory.
The U-12B Avalanche lost 3-2 to the Titanes SC Barracudas. Lucas Gaissert scored both Hopewell goals, with an assist from midfielder Patrick Capstack. Midfielders Kyle Beveridge, Dean DiGiacomo, Max Johnson, Andrew Neal, and Connor Plarre possessed well and applied offensive pressure. Alex Tagliareni, Nick Tagliareni, Ben Thompson and Garrett Zimmerman defended well in front of the stellar goalkeeping of Sam Neal and Paul Warznak.
After winning the JAGS Premier flight in Spring play, the U14 Hurricanes opened up their Fall JAGS season with a scoreless draw against the visiting Randolph Storm. The Hurricanes defense earned the shutout behind the goalkeeping efforts of Maddie Schrader and Kate Allen, and a suffocating defensive performance by Emily Cooke, Anna Cappucci, Carly Sison, and Jolene Evich. Julia Peters had a late goal overturned by an offsides call.
The U8 Lightning played the Woodbridge Revels to a 2-2 tie as Ty Becker and Milan Desai had the Hopewell goals. Stellar defense came from Kyle Yadamiec, Eshaan Doshi and Tyler Yadamiec. Gavin McCaffrey, Logan Gonsalves, Jeremy Siegelheim, Ethan Nau and Jackson Sub played equally well on offense. Dylan Napoleon, Michael Whitlock and John Jaihan proved all had hard drives down the line.
