Man apprehended in Times Square charged with South Brunswick murder

SOUTH BRUNSWICK — A South Brunswick man was arrested in New York on Oct. 1 and charged with killing a 47-year-old woman in the home they shared.

Andre Griffith, 37, was apprehended in Times Square at 1:15 a.m. following a weeklong search.

He was charged with murder in the death of Samantha Ross, according to a joint statement released by Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief Raymond J. Hayducka of the South Brunswick Police Department.

The investigation began on Sept. 24 after relatives of Ross, concerned for her welfare, called police, who entered the home at 607 Jones Drive and found the woman. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:07 a.m., Carey said.

An autopsy performed by the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office listed the cause of death as asphyxiation.

Griffith was being held in New York as of press time; it was not immediately determined when he will be returned to New Jersey.

Bail in New Jersey had been set at $1 million.

“I applaud the diligent efforts of the law enforcement officers who led to the safe capture of the defendant, including those from the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Unit, the New York City Police Department, the South Brunswick Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office,” Carey said.
