Last month, I contacted East Brunswick Council President Michael Hughes and asked him how we could arrange to have deer crossing signs posted on Summerhill Road. It is a very busy county road, with limited sight distance between Frost Avenue and Old Stage Road.
Over the years, I have seen too many deer lying by the side of the road in that spot, the latest a young fawn. In the hours from dusk to dawn, deer routinely cross from the area by Welsh Park across Summerhill Road to Frost Woods. Drivers coming over the rise in the road just don’t see them in time to stop. This creates a dangerous situation for both motorist and wildlife.
The other day, I was pleasantly surprised by a call from Michael Hughes informing me that the county had agreed to post signs along Summerhill Road. I was impressed with his initiative and follow-through with county officials to expedite the signage. It shows a concern for the safety and welfare of our residents as well as those passing through the township.
Too often, you only see letters from people complaining about something. I thought it was important to express my gratitude for a job well done.
My thanks, Michael, for your support, and to the county officials for their responsiveness.
